Wellies - pre walker

Wellies for an a pre walker?
Little one starts nursery next week, he’s one in two weeks.
He crawls well, pulls to stand, cruises with ease and can stand alone however hasn’t taken steps yet. They could be soon, or they could be months away, who knows!
I bought him some pre walkers for starting nursery but I’ve been told by the staff they spend a lot of time playing in the garden come rain or shine and he should really have welly boots. But I thought these weren’t advised for non walkers? When they go on outdoor walks he will be in a pram but they have lots of outdoor garden toys and given he can crawl and stand and cruise they think wellies. What would you do?

I definitely wouldn't put a baby in wellies until they're competent walking, these would be much better.

I didn't buy my son wellies for childcare until he could walk as there was no point.

Has anyone seen a cheaper version of these?

I wouldn't even bother with anything other than pre- walkers until they can walk properly.

The H&M ones are water-repellent rather than waterproof, and the JoJo ones say waterproof in the title, but showerproof in the description, so I'm not sure how they'd hold up to crawling or cruising on wet ground. 'Playshoes' like https://www.amazon.co.uk/Playshoes-Unisex-Waterproof-Footies-Navy-Blue/dp/B003SEQ8ZQ are often recommended and are supposed to be properly waterproof.

DD2 was on her feet very early, and I ended up using a pair of first walker leather ankle boots, as soft as I could find – I worried about how slippy it might be trying to walk in the playshoes. Our nursery were okay with those instead of wellies when she was tiny, so she wore those outside and Dotty Fish style shoes inside.

I'd agree with ankle 'boot' type of things rather than wellies (or anything soft). They will keep the foot dry enough and are more than likely stay on, which is about as much as you can hope for 😂 my two year old wears that kind of thing on damp days when we don't need wellies.

Thanks guys - I was super hesitant for wellies anyway, he’s been barefoot or in socks so far and hopefully walking isn’t too far off!
