Do your young kids children roblox?

What does everyone think about roblox? I know so many young kids that play it but after playing it with my 6 year old yesterday I was not happy with some of the inappropriate games on there, she’s supervised when playing it so luckily I was there and we turn off the chat feature but obviously that doesn’t stop everything. Do your children under 10 play it?

No, we dont let our DS play it who is also 6. Most of the parents in his class are all of the same belief, its a no no, there are plenty of other games around that are more appropriate for their age.

Not for a six yr old! I allowed it for my eldests when they were nine. My other daughter is soon nine and I will let her then!

No, not allowing 8yo ds to play Roblox.

No, my DS is 8. Quite a few of his friends play it, but it’s not age appropriate in my view.

Familiaritybreedscontemptso · 09/02/2024 21:16

No way. DS is nearly 10 and has just started but in a very heavily monitored way. The open chat feature is a real issue.

WhyIOughtTo · 09/02/2024 21:22

I don't see why you would let them. There's a thousand games out there that you know are suitable. You are never going to have that peace of mind with Roblox.

EasternStandard · 09/02/2024 21:23

No chance for 6 year old here

ladygindiva · 09/02/2024 21:38

My 7 yo twins are not allowed for all the reasons pps have given. A lot of their mates at school do though.

soundsys · 09/02/2024 21:46

Nope! Not even the 9yo

YourLocal · 09/02/2024 21:58

I’ve let mine at nine because they don’t like horror games bc they say they’re a bit boring. They don’t bother chatting to others and know that’s they shouldn’t and just play with their friends they are on it a bit but not addicted

HarraKiri · 09/02/2024 22:00

My 8yr old has it (as do I) and we love it.

You can put parental controls on it, ensure they only have access to specific games, disable the chat feature completely or restrict it to friends only and switch off their inbox to stop them receiving direct messages.

Have you played on it yourself? When my child wanted it, I said I would download it and play and see what I thought, and as a player, as long as parental controls are correctly set, I honestly think it's one of the safest games for kids out there.

Gaming is becoming part of life for so many young people, and rather than fight them on it, I choose to join my kids in that world and play with them. It means when they have things to tell me about Roblox or new worlds or hacks they have discovered, im genuinely interested and not just making polite noises. It's a great way of keeping up playing with your child as they grow.

Longwhiskers · 09/02/2024 22:03

My 9 year old doesn’t have it and actually hasn’t asked for it. He hasn’t mentioned that his friends all play it.

We do the same as @HarraKiri - DS loves to play alongside DH!

Vettrianofan · 10/02/2024 11:31

My DC has vintage consoles such as PS2 which are not internet enabled (where I sit and play games with them). Street Fighter 2 has got to be one of the best games out there!

I don't have to worry about internet safety if they use old consoles.

Can't you just explain to your 10 year old to add friends only he knows? That's what I do.

BodenCardiganNot · 10/02/2024 11:52

@Giv0iw
Do you check that your 10 year old only adds friends he knows?

machanicalmovement · 10/02/2024 12:00

My child has it but we are carefully supervising what is going on as we sit together.

Mynewnameis · 10/02/2024 12:01

Yes it does have parental controls you know... set age limit for content. Can only chat with friends. Can only have friends approved by me.
They love playing it and had no issues.

Fortnite on the other hand is banned here.

Shiningout · 10/02/2024 12:25

My 6yo plays it just for building houses or playing a spider man one or the racing ones. He doesn't chat to anyone or add anyone on there at all and can't access any of the more grown up games. The stuff he plays is completely fine for a young child

Working with children, and seeing all the trouble they get into online, yes of course I tell him that. I’m still going to monitor it though. And any parent who doesn’t and trusts a 10 yo to definitely make the cautious decision is at best naive.

Those saying you can limit the chat to friends only - can you explain how please? As the only options I found were turn off altogether, or just block people individually. Much better if there is a way to limit chats to friends only.
