DC (8) so tired after school

DS 1 & 2 (both 8) go to football training after school on Thursdays. One has PE that afternoon too. They leave at 4:45pm and get home at 7:30pm (DH coaches and it's in the next town).

Friday after school they are tired and teary (to be expected). Home then snack then they just want to veg in front of TV but there's 4 hours til bedtime!

Film night?

Well of course, what were you expecting them to do instead. They need chill out time.

Mine is the same. Lots of activities Mon-Thur and over the weekend. On Friday evening we all laze about. Film night is a good idea. Simple board games work. I tend to read my kindle but he prefers to read in bed. Basically yes keep it chill for now, your kids obviously need some time to decompress.

Absolutely. Mine do nothing on Friday, neither do I after I've finished work!

DH is great and wants to play football with them
in the garden after work but sometimes it goes on for ages. I think that’s lovely but more a Sat morning thing? (plus they’ve been playing it for 2 hours the night before). They need a bit of headspace/lazing about IMO. They do want to though so I should just leave them to it!

Of course they’re tired after a long week at school and sports afterwards too. I’d be shattered!

Def a film and an early night. All of need more down time in our hustle culture.

I love that they have this bonding time but Friday night it just ends in grumpiness and arguing!

They do it Thurs night/Sunday mornings and some nights in the garden after school so it's not like this is the only time they get to do it😂

DD has busy Tuesday, it's just the way this year has worked out with club timings so she has Football training straight after school, then Brownies. The main thing that's helped has been making sure she has a decent high energy snack in her school bag for before Football.

I think it's fine for them to veg out after their clubs and just relax, read a book, play a low energy game or watch TV they need to rest and recover.

Thx all. Just wanted to see what the pace is for others.

They’ve been in the garden and we’re gonna watch a film in a while so all good.

No biggie in the grand scheme of things. They love footie esp with their Dad. They are lucky.
As you say, training falls on a tricky night of the week after PE.
High energy snacks all round!
