MAKING BABIES

My 5 year old dd has been asking how babies are made for months now. We have tried to be as honest as possible with her but she is wanting to know every little detail now and is getting frustrated with me as I keep trying to hold back from telling her too much. What sort of age do you think they should be told this kind of stuff.
All we have told her so far is that babies are made with a seed from daddy and an egg from mummy. She then asks how they get together and I have managed to get away with telling her that mummy and daddy have special hugs. This doesn't seem to good enough for her anymore and she wants more answers.

Well she sounds about ready to me.
My dd is 5.6 yrs and asks off and on, so I tell her as simply as possibly.

I think the more you try and put it off, the more they will try and find out, and I know some of the bigger kids at dd's school have been talking, so personally I would rather just be up front (without scaring her!!) as possible.

Maybe time to get her one of those special books that you can look at together?.. of which, anyone got any good suggestions for this age group?

If she is asking for more info then I would go with that. I can remember my Mum telling me how babies are made and I was about your DDs age.

Apparantly this book is excellent (we have not BTDT yet):

Thanks ever so much. How much detail would you go into re: the sex side of it? Part of me still feels that 5 is still quite young to know a lot or is it just me being a protective mum?

what about trying to put it off until spring and then some visits to some farms so that dd can see what animals do.

that's a good idea - not sure if I can stand there and watch myself though - eeeuuurgh
