Can someone recommend a hoover that actually hoovers?!

As you can probably tell, I'm tired of buying expensive hoovers that dot. Last longer than a year or 2. We have a family and I need something robust that won't break the bank. Oh and also recommendations for steam mops much appreciated!

Meile. Would never buy anything else. And probably won't have to as they last forever.

Ladyj84 · 27/09/2023 19:52

A dog 😁

Giggorata · 27/09/2023 19:53

We have a Henry, after trying mostly everything else.
We also have a workshop hoover, which we sharpie'd a face on, with stubble and a roll up, who is called Bert.
Bert can suck up minor rubble, broken glass, sawdust and I have been known to hoover up leaves in the garden with him.

If you have a Miele...how often do you change the bag? The bags cost £15 for 4 bags.

Cyanchicken · 27/09/2023 19:56

Miele!

muddyford · 27/09/2023 19:57

I am on my fourth Miele. Big house. I buy the pretend Miele bags on Amazon and don't pay anything like the price for the real ones. Mine are enormous and probably get changed once a month or six weeks.

Miele game changer

This. Dyson are shite. James Dyson should be in prison for crimes against cleaning. He's a snake oil seller.

HannahDefoesTrenchcoat · 27/09/2023 20:01

You can get Mieles that don't use bags.
We've just hot one after our shark finally died and it's shockingly good compared to the shark.

YokoOnosBigHat · 27/09/2023 20:03

Another vote for Henry. Tried so many of them from expensive Dysons to Argos own brand and everything in between... Henry wipes the floor with all of them.

Just buy the fake ones on eBay or Amazon. They're no different.

No idea on mops, as I'm yet to find the perfect one. I quite like the spinning ones but how about one of those hoover/mop combos. 2 birds, 1 stone!

MenopauseSucks · 27/09/2023 20:15

Miele cat & dog.
My first one I bought in 1994 & it was still working perfectly in 2018.
I left it in a flat I was selling - might live to regret it! I'd 'inherited' a newer one from a family member in my new place. It was bought in 2012 & is still going in 2023.

I always clear my long hair off the brushes (!) after every use & occasionally change the filters but it's still as effective as it was.

It'll probably die now...

Damonalbarnsbigtoe · 27/09/2023 20:15

Henry. Nothing beats it.

Cheeesus · 27/09/2023 20:19

Having had Dyson for years and also used my dad’s Henry, we’ve got a shark which we’re really happy with. We asked our cleaner for her advice too.

Henry is great but I get need an upright or I get pissed off with them.

This is the Shark we have https://amzn.to/3LGfbMp

RainBow725 · 27/09/2023 20:21

Another Henry lover here. Yes, he falls over a lot but he's older than my eldest son who is at university and still going strong!

Hocuspocus99 · 27/09/2023 20:22

Sebo , well worth the money and in reality not that expensive for a hoover that actually does the job . I’m a cleaner and sadly everything else is below the Sebo standard . I would stick to a mop and bucket over a steam cleaner , cleans the floor much better.

ChishiyaBat · 27/09/2023 20:23

Another vote for Henry here.

fridaynight1 · 27/09/2023 20:24

I’ve had 2 Dyson’s and I’ll never buy another.
Blue Henry (allergy) is my current hoover and so far he’s been bloody fab.

twistandscream · 27/09/2023 20:25

Sebo ion days that you can deal with the strong suction and Henry for less energetic cleans. And Leifheit mop and bucket. Don't buy cheaper versions as they're rubbish

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 27/09/2023 20:25

Sebo.

silverbubbles · 27/09/2023 20:28

My very new Sebo is simply not as good as my older very powerful one which was the muts nuts.

The hoover shop told me that due to Eu regs the motors in hoovers are not as good as they used to be. So hoovers are all a bit shit.

silverbubbles · 27/09/2023 20:30

Karcher steam cleaner is OK but its not really that great. Mop and bucket better on a stone floor.

Karcher steamer (using brush attachments) worked very well on dirty grout lines on a stone floor

greenmarsupial · 27/09/2023 20:32

We have a Harry who is Henry’s pet loving brother. I looked at what the cleaners used at work (school) and bought that. I thought if it could tackle glitter then it could tackle anything!

Miele c3 - I love it and will never go back to bagless and/or cordless again.

I second Miele C3 ,it changed the way i think about hoovering

Miele game changer

Agree with this
I've had dyson, shark and Henry hoovers. All annoying in their own way. Although the Henry was better than the other two waste of money crap.
Miele are fantastic. I've got the cat and dog. It's incredibly powerful and will suck up the cat if he doesn't run fast enough.
