Toddler scared of poop

Today my toddler pooped in the bath as it emptied. He hadn’t seemed to notice at first but when he saw it he flipped out and screamed his head off, hyper ventilating and running away from the bathroom. It was so intense. It took a while to calm him down downstairs. It was so intense.
is this a normal reaction? Will he find potty training scary?

Don't worry I about if he'll find potty training scary as you'll be there to be a calm influence and reassure him.

How old is he? Are you thinking of potty training soon?

This is bringing to mind a childhood memory. He may have been scared of it touching his legs.

It’s something that he’s likely never seen before and then it turned up in his bath where he feels safe. Start showing him his poo in a nappy and yours before you start potty training.

Thanks everyone. He is 16 months and not ready to potty train yet . It just took me by surprise. I think he’s seen it in his nappy but not like this and he seemed so scared. But I’ll make a point of letting him see it’s not scary.
I have a neice who was scared to poop in the potty to the point where she was always constipated so that’s probably why I’m overthinking and worried about potty training.

If they are scared to pop on the potty you usually let them have a nappy on to poop as long as they sit on the potty.

Then, very gradually, over several weeks, you put the nappy on more loosely until in the end you're just laying the nappy on the potty before they sit down to poop. It takes time but usually works.

Oh I’ll remember that when the time comes if needed. Good advice thanks!
