So I’m very safety consious !

DS does have a backpack with his name on for nursery but that is mainly as I heard from a friend before he started some mums can ‘dip’ things🤦🏻‍♀️ and of course the nursery is amazing and would help us and has CCTV everywhere but it was more to save the hassle as I doubt someone would take the backpack witb his name on

I really like the Zara edited range! The sweatshirts etc and wanted one for him

I was going to do his initials (3 letters) rather than his name/nickname as no one would know his name by 3 letters

and also I may just keep it for when we go to visit family or he goes to my parents Ona Friday etc (they have him every Friday as they’re off, so I can work)

hes nearly 2 so of course just want to do what I can to keep him safe

What does "dip things" mean?

shakeitoffsis · 22/09/2023 20:46

What on Earth...

What does dip things mean?

How does a rucksack with his initials on keep him safe?

Confused

Whaaaaaat?! You’re wondering whether it’s safe to have a sweatshirt with your sons initials on it? Which he’ll wear at nursery and to his grandparents? Why would it not be safe?

tashatash · 22/09/2023 20:50

Hi when I say dip I meant rob sorry. Bit if slang

the backpack with his name on doesn’t keep him safe necessarily I meant I got that for nursery just so no one robs it - as explained earlier in post

I do like the edited range but I felt bad getting anything so was only asking surely just initials would be fine

ive heard you shouldn’t have stuff with your kids names on in public? As it can be dangerous and kidnappers etc can know their name and use it to try and take them

sorrY to seem silly I’m an anxious mum

And I’d like to wear the sweatshirt anywhere but I probably would just keep it for non public places because I am anxious

You’re way overthinking it. I see the school of thought but I’d hazard a guess that in the history of the world, a child has never been abducted just because they were wearing personalised clothes.

  1. children who can speak will happily tell most people their name
  2. child abductors probably don’t care if the kid is going willingly
  3. most children who are abducted are by people they know

Initials definitely aren’t going to cause a problem.

(And I’m not trying to be cruel, I’m just trying to rationalise this for you.)

Hermittrismegistus · 22/09/2023 21:04

Ok, so you want to get him a shirt with his name on but are worried about weirdos?

Initials will be absolutely fine to wear in public.

SleepingStandingUp · 22/09/2023 21:06

Ok.

Yes, a bag with your son's name on is less likely to be stolen than a plain bag. Sounds like you're in a rough school. Make sure everything else like coats etc are heavily labelled on the inside.

Re a top with his name on, yes the risk is someone coming over and saying Hey Jaiden, your Mom sent me to get you. But at 2 he won't be anywhere unsupervised so I wouldn't worry about it. Certainly keep it for grandparents if it makes you feel better but it's older kiddies who are out without parents who are the risk

Taylorswiftserastour · 22/09/2023 21:17

If another mum wants to rob my kids vinted special backpack with scruffy stained nursery clothes in they are clearly more in need that we are.

I don't like initial or name things personally but providing his initials aren't A-S-S or something similar it's not really a problem.

tashatash · 22/09/2023 21:41

Thanks for the reassurance I am overly anxious yes so can seem a bit silly

regarding the nursery thing, he’s been there for over a year and I’ve not heard anything amongst the mums or staff during his time. It was mentioned to me prior to his start so maybe they caught whoever it was but I can rest assure his nursery is fantastic and I bet if I mentioned it happen to me etc they’d be mortified and help find who it was asap

I wouldn't send him to nursery in anything nicer than a 4th hand Primark jumper.

Initials will make him look like a gas board employee
