Playdate invitation

crazypple · 22/09/2023 20:04

Son's friend just invited him to his house for a playdate and I don’t know the boys parents at all

I just got the Mum’s number and I am wondering if to text her I don’t feel comfortable just dropping my son off without contacting her or knowing her at all

I don't even know what to text 🙄🙈

I find these situations awkward

Suggestions will be helpful and appreciated

I would say yes, but make up a white lie that he can be a bit anxious so you'd like to stay for a cup of tea and make sure he settles down ok before leaving him.
Then see how you feel when you are there.

11 going on 12 nxt month

In that case. Ignore my reply.

He's old enough to manage his own friendships and should be able to visit a friends house at 12 without much parental involvement.

Does your son have a phone ? Would he text you if he wanted to leave ?
I would get the home address and let him go tbh. I'm assuming it's for a few hours after school or over the weekend.

NuffSaidSam · 22/09/2023 20:12

'Hi, Joe's said that Barnaby has invited him over to hang out after school, I just wanted to check that's ok with you? Crazypple'

Don't call your 12 year old sons social engagements 'playdates', poor boy!

CloudPop · 22/09/2023 20:12

Just text something like
Hi - thanks for having x over, he's looking forward to it. What time shall I pick him up ?

CyberCritical · 22/09/2023 20:13

'Hi, it's X's mum. X has just told me he's been invited round to yours tomorrow so wanted to make sure you had my number in case you need to get in contact. X and [sons friends name] have arranged for him to be at yours at about [insert time here] does that work for you?'

This. You have to butt out a bit. It's not a play date when they are nearly secondary age. Though don't do what dd did and pretend to be vegetarian.

ijustchangedmyname · 22/09/2023 20:22

12 next month? As in year 8 at school?

You don't need to text the mum anything... It's not a play date when they're that age!😬

Mumof1andacat · 22/09/2023 20:25

He needs to give you the address and I would imagine he has a mobile himself anyway. You could offer a lift maybe to this person's house?

Gymmum82 · 22/09/2023 20:30

Your kid is 12. Has he never been to a friends house before? He’s a bit old for playdates and he’s old enough to sort out his own social schedule

Freezingcoldinseptember · 22/09/2023 20:32

Secondary school I met dc make their own mates... Sleepovers yes had a contact number though.

crazypple · 22/09/2023 20:44
