How can I avoid constant illness this winter?

Every winter the coughs and colds are just constant, last year it definitely felt like we were all just constantly unwell from Oct - March. I understand illness is going to happen, it's good for the immune system and I'm fine with the odd cold here and there but I don't know if I can handle another winter of constantly feeling unwell.

My kids are 5 and 2 so pick up a lot from school and nursery. We already eat a balanced diet, kids will quite happily eat a good variety of fruit and veg and sleep well at night.

Wondering if anybody has any extra tips they use to keep the bugs away (some vitamin supplements maybe?)

Thanks!

Avoid antibiotics as much as possible. They are sometimes necessary but they really depress the immune system

Get a good probiotic.

And wash hands regularly and well. The amount of bacteria that gets transmitted hand via mouth route is astonishing.
Lots of people just say “ they are building immunity “ I call it being clean and basic hygiene. They will build immunity up and it’s inevitable they will get unwell but some viruses can get eliminated by doing this that also do bugger all for “ immunity “ other than making them very sick.
It’s always a no brainer for me and I am a former nurse.
