Poorly 2 year old- at my wits end

Hi all,
My 2 year old has been unwell since Sunday complaining of a sore mouth therefore hasn't eaten a thing since sunday lunch time (where she ate probably a spoon of beans) and has barely drank anything since then.

We've offered everything under the sun and she's not a bit interested including chocolate and ice lollies and she just gets incredibly upset and refuses.

We've been to urgent care, gp twice and a&e nobody knows what is wrong.

She's been spiking temps on and off. We've been giving pain relief and mouth numbing sprays which don't appear to be helping at all. Advice at a&e yesterday was to syringe liquid in her mouth, which she is refusing and what I do get in she spits out..

Today she's incredibly lethargic and has slept on and off all day.

What the heck do we do now?

Is she weeing still ?

DustyLee123 · 21/09/2023 14:46

Could it be her teeth, so a trip to the dentist ?

Is she weeing, OP? I wouldn't be especially worried about her not eating when she's ill, but if she's not getting any fluids and is very dehydrated, that is a concern and I'd suggest calling 111. Have you tried getting her to drink other things, like milkshakes/ dilute fruit juice - any fluids at all would be good at this stage. Ice lollies?

Sorry, just saw I'd missed the bit where you've already tried ice lollies. I'd call 111 if you're worried about dehydration.

Roxyrocks · 21/09/2023 14:48

She's weed like a dribble, very very strong smelling urine, I feel like it was about 20ml?

I think you need to get her seen again if she’s only weed that much.

wp65 · 21/09/2023 14:51

Yes, you need to get her seen - she might need IV fluids.

DustyLee123 · 21/09/2023 14:52

Please let us know how you go.

Sunandstorms · 21/09/2023 14:53

GP here - I’d want her seeing again because I’d be worried she might be dehydrated if she’s getting so little in and weeing so little.
good luck!

Take her back to a and e .
Antibiotics?

Roxyrocks · 21/09/2023 15:14

She was given antibiotics as a just in case by gp but she's completely refusing them

OP posts:
cestlavielife · 21/09/2023 18:42

Just wrap her in a blanket and make her take the antibios. Better orally than on a drip right ??

Roxyrocks · 21/09/2023 21:45

Couldn't agree more, desperate to avoid a drip or an NG tube. The issue is when we get it in her mouth it's spat back out as she's saying it hurts her mouth, I can force it into her mouth but I can't force her to swallow it.

Clotheshorses · 21/09/2023 21:47

Please take her back she sounds like she is dehydrated and that can get dangerous quite fast

DustyLee123 · 21/09/2023 21:47

Keep giving it to her, along with Calpol. Hopefully some will get down.

fartfacenotfatface · 21/09/2023 21:49

You can repeatedly syringe teeny amounts of water so it's more absorbed than needed to be swallowed to help with hydration but I'd be worried that she's weeing so little now and would get her seen ASAP.

Inyourwildestdreams · 21/09/2023 22:08

Can you see anything at all in her mouth @Roxyrocks ? Any small spots? What about hands & feet? Or around her bottom etc?
Sounds very like my son when he had quite a bad case of Hand Foot & Mouth. He didn’t have spots appear until a few days in and he didn’t get many outwith his mouth.

I agree with others, I’d be wanting her seen again if she’s not passing urine.
