Newborn abdominal X-ray radiation?? Did anyone else’s kids do scans as a baby

My daughter is three weeks old and she vomited green bile so they had to do a contrast X-ray which takes multiple images of the intestines. They then did one abdominal X-ray and I honestly am so upset she was exposed to so much radiation at such a young age. Did anyone else’s kids do scans as a baby, are they ok?

My daughter has had multiple scans and X-rays some with contrast annually since birth , she is 8 now and completely fine , the amount of radiation in an X-ray is similar to a long haul flight and you wouldn’t think twice about taking a baby in a plane ,so don’t worry about it .

Yes one of mine did and has continued to have scans and xrays. The issue is that you have to balance up not doing the investigations and what could happen with the risk of the radiation.

I know it's hard and hope you get decent information with a clear pathway and your baby is healthy.

Absolutely normal to check for bowel obstruction, malrotation, intesucception etc etc.

Mine had an x-ray at 14 hours old, she kept her head to one side and they needed to check there wasn't a birth injury (there wasn't)
She's 7 and totally fine.

Yes please don’t worry OP it’s really a tiny amount of radiation, it’s also (sadly) quite a relatively frequent age for all sorts of explorations, including scans, for all sorts of health issues. Scans were more risky a lot of years ago, but now they’re pretty much the go-to as it’s the opposite, non invasive etc

Yes mine had x-rays within hours of birth to check for broken bones following a difficult birth. He was and is fine x
