Hand foot and mouth or Chicken pox

Does anyone have experience with either? What do you think it looks like. I took him to the urgent care to be checked over and they didn’t really say a lot about what it is, just took his temp and sent us on our way really.

Im giving calpol, antihistamines and doing everything we can to help with the itching but would like to know what he has. It started on his feet. He has none on his stomach and only one on his back which is why I’m thinking more HFM. He has lots in his mouth and lips too.

Sounds more like hfm if they are in his mouth/on his lips.

Some of the chicken pox remedies should help though if he's itchy

Doesn't look like CP; more likely HFM

LeftTheWashingOut · 17/09/2023 18:44

I'd say hand foot and mouth, especially as it started on his feet. They also don't seem to resemble the blisters that come with CP. I hope he's doing ok it

Thank you. I’ve took him the doctors who said chicken pox, I’m still not convinced but 🤷🏻‍♀️. He hasn’t got one spot on his belly or back. It’s just on his legs, feet, bum, arms, hands and mouth xx

HFM I reckon. Weird to not have CP on trunk and spread out is the norm.

SausageinaBun · 19/09/2023 21:02

A friend's DD was diagnosed with CP by a doctor. It wasn't until my DD caught HFM from her that my friend worked out that the doctor was wrong. Her DD went on to catch CP a few weeks later. I got mine immunised against CP as HFM was bad enough, I didn't want to go through CP too.

dementedpixie · 19/09/2023 21:04

Still sounds like HFM given its presentation

specialk9 · 19/09/2023 21:48

Ahh poor baby.

HF & M. My youngest presented in exactly the same way. Took a good few weeks to clear up as well. Hope he doesn't feel too poorly with it x

Stripeypyjamas · 19/09/2023 21:50

Possibly impetigo?

Needaholi · 19/09/2023 21:50

Definitely HFM (imo). It's awful and your child's mouth may be very very sore with ulcers on tongue too. It takes 3-4 days to be over worst of it.
When both my kids have had Hfm, theyve also had spots around their bum too.

specialk9 · 19/09/2023 21:54

Just to add he's also had CP and it was completely different. Here's his HFM
