I love Halloween however my children not so much guess these generations don't get it like I do ha!. Anyways my 5 year old doesn't like being around others who don't look like themselves aka dresses up (he's on the autistic spectrum).. He has a half term coming up in school on the 29th of October and they've said they can come in their costumes or just normal clothes, I know most kids will be dressed up more so his age rather than the older groups of ages. I have no idea how to approach this?, dress him up to may it'll help him feel a little relaxed? (he's not that keen btw), keep him off? (I really don't want to do that).. I need advice please 😊

If he doesn't want to 'dress up' in the traditional sense you could always get him a Halloween themed top instead? They tend to do that type of stuff in the supermarkets, with pumpkins on or something.

You'll need to prepare him that other kids will be dressed up if that makes him uncomfortable. Although I would have thought for school, the costumes will just be clothes (i.e. no face paint or masks) so the kids will still look like themselves as it were.

@Spottypineapple yeah I thought that too as I have pumpkin themed jumpers for my 1 year old, I'm sure they aren't allowed masks but face paints they can it's "optional" that's my main worry, he has meltdowns over these things so I really don't want the school to struggle with that and I also don't want him off school as he's just started. I guess I'll just have to send him in whatever he feels comfortable with and hopefully seeing other children looking a little different than usual won't through him off.
