2 year old DD something stuck up nose - to wait until Monday for appt

Does anyone have any experience of this? It's not sitting well with me... I thought my little one had a developed a cold at nursery on Thursday when I picked her up. But runny nose was quite brown, I wondered if they had scratched it when wiping it and that's why she seemed upset when I wiped it too. During Thursday and Friday night she has woken up and struggled a bit with blocked nose. Fast forward to this morning, she seemed a bit lethargic and still irritated if you tried to wipe nose and it has started to smell a little. I stupidly assumed it was a bad cold but I I looked right up earlier with a torch and can see the bottom of something dark stuck up her nose. My guess is a raisin but could be a little stone?! Called 111 and they have given us an ENT appointment on Monday. She is crying everytime she touches it by accident , irritable and it smells. Am I wrong to be worried about infection too? It's too far up to try get it ourselves and I tried the mother's kiss thing but she was fighting me off. Any thoughts?

Id take her to A+E asap.

Listening2023 · 16/09/2023 21:31

I'd say it warrants A&E...sounds like a nasty infection which could be dangerous. People go to A&E for less.

Listening2023 · 16/09/2023 21:33

They usually say if symptoms worsen/ don't improve call back/ go to A&E ...if she's gone lethargic that's very scary.

Yep, I'd go to A&E, not fun on a Saturday night but it doesn't sound like it should be left.

Lifeinlists · 16/09/2023 21:34

I'd take her to A&E too. It's not going to have improved by Monday and could get worse.

Gudinne · 16/09/2023 21:36

If it was my child, the bad smell would make me worried about infection. I think infections in the nose can travel to the brain. I would go to A&E rather than wait until Monday. Perhaps I am over cautious. I have no medical qualifications.

MissHoollie · 16/09/2023 21:36

If you can get someone to help wriggling hands and legs try the mother's kiss as that's the first thing they will try in A and E.
It will be less traumatic at home

Xrays · 16/09/2023 21:37

Definitely a and e. They’ll get it out quickly and it can be dangerous if left.

DoThePropeller · 16/09/2023 21:39

Yes try the kissing trick, it’s worked for me with Lego (at A&E where they showed me it) and at home for both raisins and sequins. If that doesn’t dislodge it, A&E.

mollyfolk · 16/09/2023 21:40

I would go to A&E - in rare cases they can breath it down and it can be dangerous. I am not a professional but have experience with a toddler and a tiny piece of Lego!

Darthwazette · 16/09/2023 21:42

Mothers Kiss is the way to go. I went to a&e with me then two year old and this is what they asked me to do. The object flew right out!

PortiaWithNoBreaks · 16/09/2023 21:43

Do you know what it is? If it’s something like a battery, that can be really, really dangerous.

I do think this warrants a trip to A & E.

ladyinthecampervan · 16/09/2023 21:43

Been there @RhubarbCrumble12345! I feel your pain.

agree with those who suggested mothers kiss. Saved my DC2 from a trip to A&E (which is where I learned about it from my trip there with DC1).

if that doesn’t shift it then it’s A&E for definite- good luck!

YourNameGoesHere · 16/09/2023 21:44

Agree with others you need to look up the mothers kiss and try it out on her. It will be much less scary for her if you can do it at home but if you can't get it out using this method you need to get to A&E. Don't wait until Monday poor lamb.

morag1234 · 16/09/2023 21:45

Go to a&e. They will remove it in about 2 seconds. So bad of them to advise you to wait until Monday!

NorthernGirlie · 16/09/2023 21:46

Wrap her in a towel and try Mother's kiss again. A&E if it doesn't work

Jellykat · 16/09/2023 21:52

My DS1 did this with a dried pea when little, A&E removed it with a pair of forceps in about 3 minutes.. there was no other way to get it out.

So i'd echo A&E

Sugarfree23 · 16/09/2023 21:54

I'm another who thinks A&E, I wouldn't want to leave it.
I've no idea what Mothers Kiss is but I wouldn't be trying without a professional showing me what to do.

cardboardbox22 · 16/09/2023 21:56

I'd go to A and E. My little one stuck a small object up nose. Rang GP they said they couldn't deal with it and sent me to A and E.

OhDoh · 16/09/2023 21:56

💯 A&E. x

Hiddenvoice · 16/09/2023 21:58

I’d be going straight to A&E with her . Hope she’s okay!

ZoChan · 16/09/2023 21:59

During covid my son stuck a bead up his nostril. Managed to get it out by sucking on a bic pen lid: seal the wider end around his nostril and sharply suck the small end.

justasking111 · 16/09/2023 21:59

A&E for sure especially with infection

MidnightOnceMore · 16/09/2023 22:00

A&E for something stuck.

Floralnomad · 16/09/2023 22:02

Take her to A&E ASAP .
