Don't feel ready to put my 6 week old in her own room but she is getting too big for her moses baskets- any ideas?

We have limited room and the cotbed is one of those mammas and pappas massive ones so we can't move into our room. Our LO is our first and the health visitor has told me that it is best for infants to stay in their parents for 6 months- that won't be happening but I feel that 6 weeks is a little too early.

She is a real mover and shaker when she is getting herself off to sleep, it is fine when she lies on our bed as when she is doing her snow angel moves she doesn't bang her arms and legs where as in the moses basket she really thumps the sides in frustration- she hates swaddling as well!

Any ideas!

Could you put the basket on the floor, rather than in the stand ? Careful not to step on her in the night though.

do you have a pram with proper lie flat part to it (cannot for life of me remember what they are called sorry )

our dd's were both too big for moses baskets VERY quickly and we didn't want to buy a crib as had cot waiting in their room for them

dh lugged pram and lie flat part up and down stairs every moring and night to use instead

Do you have a travel cot? We used ours when DS got too big for his basket and like you, the cot was too big to come in our room.
The travel cot has probably been the baby item used the most in our house, not including the above usage either so a great buy all round!

Carrycot dixxy? We had a moses basket for dd was useless although she mostly ended up in with us cause I was too lazy to sit up and feed her carrycot for ds did way longer was a bit wider and a mit more solid than the basket.

I found with dd though that I don't think even the carrycot would have done her good she had the problem of banging her hands on the side and waking herself up as well.

No idea what to suggest as we only had a normal cot and it fitted in our room.
Would a normal cot fit in? Is there nowhere you could get a cheap one from just to fit in your room until you put her in her own room.

the mil has a travel cot given to her so will ask for that i think, makes sense to try something we already have! when you get a 2nd moses basket they say to buy a new mattress would this be the same with a travel cot presuming they have a mattress- haven't actually seen our travel cot yet!

We also went for the travel cot option. Bought a mamas and papas travel cot that is very sturdy and bought an extra mattress as well. Worked a treat and ds stayed in our room until about 8 months i think.

Oh never even thought of travel cot that would be a good option. The matress on them is quite thin but I am sure I read that for wee babies that is ok but for more regular use for older babies you should get a pad to go over the top for a bit more support and comfort.

is not a problem - not the easiet name to type I admit!!

fold a duvet and put that down underneath a stretchy fitted sheet - much comfier and cosier for wee one to sleep on than horrid hard travel cot matress - cheaper than buying a pad too

I would second the travel cot, my ds used to bang his head a bit on his crib so I asked HV if it was okay for him to sleep in travel cot at night and she said as long as the base was firm this would be fine. So we did.

Hmm not keen on an under 6 month old (or even year old) sleeping on a duvet, even under a sheet. I think it might pose a bit of a suffocation/overheating risk if LO turned over on tummy, and I wouldn't take the chance.

DS when a toddler slept in a Nomad Travel tent with miniscule self inflating mattress for ages (different problem, he was climbing out of cot). He didn't seem to mind the lack of padding.

Mothercare and babies r us both have a travel cot matress for around £20 is.
