I just can't deal with the hack chat! Where has this come from?

Grin give as good as you get. Worked for me.

My nine year old has started this. He really knows how to push my buttons. I'm trying to let him have his opinions and responses but to not be rude. When I was younger we would get the wooden spoon for back chatting and I don't want my son to not be able to speak up for himself. There's a fine line between rude and just saying your opinion.

What I mean is I want to create a safe space and environment that he isn't scared to ask why the answer is no.
