Managing toddler hair!

My 15mo DD's hair is at a really awkward stage. It's very wavey to start with, it's got a little length on the underneath but the top layers are still short, and the poor thing has inherited an awful hairline from both dad and I. The hair on the top of her head still grows/falls forwards as it does when they're a baby, and despite wet combing it back/parting it every night, it's back to doing what it wants by the morning. It's not long enough to tie in little bunches so she's just ending up with all the hair on the crown of her head getting matted on a daily basis.

I honestly have no idea how to manage it whilst the top is growing out long enough to tie up? Any advice appreciated

We used hair slides for a bit until the hair was long enough to get into little bunches, so that might help.

Have you tried a leave-in conditioner to help with the matting?

Hairslides are theoretically a genius idea, I'm just pretty sure she'll pull at them and end up pulling hair out.

She's got really sensitive skin/contact dermatitis from various things (we're not sure what exactly sets her off, but it's things in washing powders/creams etc) so I'm really reluctant to use adult products like leave in conditioner on her, albeit also a good idea.

My experience was that the hair slides slid out without pulling out any hair, but taking them out definitely was a fun pastime for a bit.

We use a children's leave-in conditioner. Ours is a My Little Coco one, but I think Child's Farm also do one. My daughter with eczema is fine with the one we use, but sensitive skin is so specific to the individual, it's hard to say what will or won't be okay.
