What did you do for your child’s 5th birthday?

It’s my sons 5th birthday in less than 2 weeks and I have absolutely no idea what to do for it. I was going to hire soft play for a party but I’ve left it a bit late now and I’m wondering where I can take him and what we can do for it.
His birthday will be spent with me, his dad and toddler sister. I normally plan a good trip out somewhere rather than buy loads of presents but I’m clueless this year.

I have three kids, all primary aged. For their 5th birthdays, all had a softplay party for their class to come to, at the weekend closest to their birthday.

On the actual birthday, all three were in school, so after school they got to pick where we went for dinner (one chose Harvester, one chose 5guys, one chose TGIs). Presents in the morning before school.

We had a party for the boys in his class, at a ball pool type place.

Party at a local farm with classmates.

I asked my ds what he wanted to do, he didn't want a party (he's not into crowds) he just wanted me to take him and his bestie to a trampoline park, and then we had a bbq for our friends and their kids on the day. Just ask him what he would like.

Took them to Alton Towers!

For DD we did a group of her friends to Flip Out & then to our house for food & cake. On her actual birthday we went to an Aquarium with her grandparents, & little brother.
For DS we did a soft play party for his class. His actual birthday was a school day, so we went out with his grandparents that weekend to a local attraction.

We did a whole class party in a church hall with an entertainer. Where do you live OP - maybe someone could suggest some thing close by and last minute?

Party at a village hall and hired a bouncy castle and face painter / tattooist.

Just do a party for a couple of weeks later, no big deal.

My DDs 5th last year she had a party the month before her birthday with school friends, she’s August born so summer holidays, plus we were moving so it needed doing early. We then just did a family thing with just us on her birthday, nothing special, presents then lunch out, then a few weeks later when the wider family were all back from holidays we had a big family lunch with grandparents and cousins at home.

This year we spent the day at the beach, the five of us, family bbq was 3 days later and next weekend is her party with her school friends, 5 weeks after her actual 6th birthday.

Not too late for a soft play or...

Boing Zone/ Trampoline Park

V small gathering in the house - play music and do a modest kids buffet

Bowling and fast food

Cinema and fast food

Animal Man and buffet

Magic Man and buffet

Village Hall and go to £land for cheap toys and buffet

Hibernatalie · 12/09/2023 19:15

He opened his presents, then we took him to a farm and then came home and both sets of grandparents came over and we did his birthday cake.

DD we had about 8 of her friends round and had a little party in the garden with a face painter.

Whatsmyusername1235 · 12/09/2023 21:35

Thanks for the suggestions

Yep, there's a few rides outside in the main park she did too. We went with close friends who live nearby to it who also have two little ones similar in age to ours and the eldest two get on very well so she had a friend to play with. We were lucky to go on a weekday in term time so very little queuing, and she's a summer baby so we had good luck with the weather.

While class party in a hall with an entertainer. It was thankfully the inky while class party we did.

Has anyone been to Thomas Land at Drayton manor and recommend going for his birthday?

My DC love Thomasland. Plenty to do to fill a day and good range of rides. Lovely for a birthday.
