Toddler car seat that tilts back when toddler is sleeping?

toddlermum101 · 12/09/2023 15:31

I have a 2 and a half year old and we often go on long journeys as a family so she does nap in the car. But her head is always falling forward when sleeping? Any car seats that prevent this? Or any other suggestions, i saw these headband things but do they work?

Our cybex one does- the one with the huge plastic seat belt over the top. Sirona possibly?

Colourfulponderings · 12/09/2023 20:38

Our cybex Pallas does a bit. I did loads of research and bought it thinking the same and actually have never reclined it! 🙄

We have the britax advansafix and it has 3 recline positions, converts to a booster too so it’ll last

Do not buy a headband, it's just a great way to choke your child in an accident.

Joie 360 tilts.

Our Graco Turn2Me tilts

Thank you for the suggestions!!

I wasn't a fan of the cybex when I went to see it :(

Will definitely look at the Graco and Britax one

Thanks

We have the maxi cosi rodi fix and it reclines.
Not a lot but enough to stop the falling forward. Only thing is you do have to remember to recline it before you set off rather than mid journey, as it’s pretty much impossible to recline it unless you stand over it and pull each side.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 12/09/2023 21:35

Joie spin 360 does.

AnaBananas · 12/09/2023 21:38

Another vote for the Joie 360 - my toddler uses one and I will be purchasing another for my 5 month old when she grows out of her current car seat.

EricInk · 12/09/2023 21:43

I've loved my joie 360 spin, used for both kids from newborn and we have 2! I've done lots of long distance travelling too

Happy4free · 12/09/2023 21:51

We've got this one, daughter is 2 and a half. I love it! Has 2 easy to recline positions and really soft cushioned interior. Price wasn't too bad either.

Axkid ONE if under 23kg or 125cm
I think the besafe stretch has recline options as well which has a higher weight limit of 36kg or 125cm which ever comes first. Travelling up right as possible is safer once older I was told but that's for rear facing and I guess the same applies to forward facing.
I think the only forward facing seat with a harness over 18/19kg is the joie bold not sure on its safety rating.

Silver cross motion 360. Up to 12 years and reclines enough to stop head flipping forward.

We also have the Joie 360 which is great but only up to 4 years so our baby is in it and we moved our toddler into the silver cross. Didn't want to buy another joie for only 1/1.5 years use.

Don't go by ages on car seats. Most have a height and weight limit. The age bit is very miss leading.
My daughter was 12kg at 3 year old and a friend's daughter was 12kg at 18 months old so they will out grow their seat's at very different ages but the same weight.

The Joie 360 ispin does tilt back. Not massively but enough that DC is resting and breathing comfortably.

Fuckingfuckssake · 13/09/2023 00:21

We had a Maxi Cosi Toni if they still do them?

Unfortunately it will be not much use going by recommendations from others, as the recline of any seat will vary hugely based on the angle of the seats in your car.

But we could try and troubleshoot a bit. What car seat do you have? Are you rear facing or forward facing? Do you have any inserts in? Are you able to change the recline setting?

Have you checked the position of the straps and headrest that they are appropriate for her size - if they are left on lower settings when the child has grown, then this can cause head flop.

Is it a recent problem or happened ever since you moved into this car seat?

There is a lot of scaremongering about those head strap things on the car seat groups - ADAC crash tested them and found that they don't actually pose a risk. But it would be a problem if an add on product ended up masking a poor fit or incorrect/incompatible installation - so definitely check this first, before you add anything to the seat.

Really like the look if cns Galaxy but doesn't seem available now. Tuts

Isthisexpected · 14/11/2023 06:48

Have a conversation with the car seat safety UK team.

kikisparks · 14/11/2023 06:52

Joie 360 does. I would definitely rear face a 2.5 year old as it is much safer.

I can probably help you find an alternative if you can say what it is that you liked about it? And age of child would be helpful too :)

We love our Britax Romer.
Highly recommended
