3 year old suddenly aggressive towards baby

My two DSs have 2y5m between them, eldest has just turned 3 and youngest is 7 months.

It had all been going fairly well, when DS2 was born, DS1 was initially more emotional than usual, but minimal signs of jealousy and rarely aggressive/physical behaviour towards DS2, except perhaps rather hands on in what seemed a loving way.

Until the past couple of weeks… I don’t know if it’s because the baby is getting more and more interactive, and also getting closer to crawling, or 3 weeks of no nursery over the summer, and now a new nursery to settle into, but DS1 will now take every opportunity to poke DS2 in the mouth, or hit at him, or push his head into him. It seems to be out of excitement, but it is thoroughly testing my patience and I’ve gone from thinking gentle parenting is easy and natural to me, to feeling angry and shouting and DS1 when I see DS2 in danger.

Does anyone have any advice? I’m hoping this is a short phase. I’m counting down until DS1 is back in nursery, and I hate feeling like this 😞
