Baby or toddler?

Just wondering when you started referring to your baby as a toddler? I always think of a toddler as being able to walk a bit (including with help) and when people say baby I typically think of under ones. My little one is 14 months and nowhere near toddling anywhere and i’m never sure whether to say baby or toddler. We are definitely starting to see some more toddler like behaviour!

Young toddler?! 🤣
I think a baby is under 1, toddler 1-3, 3+ young child!

has turned 1 or can walk- whichever comes first

I used "baby" until they started walking, then "toddler" but still use "baby" in some contexts for my youngest (21 months now), and if I'm referring to both of them I'll say "the babies" as it's quicker than saying "the toddler and the preschooler". But it's said more in an ironic way as I often call my older one "my little baby" in a silly voice as an in-joke that we share because he is starting to develop a sense of humour. And then he says "I'm not a baby!" and I say "what are you then?" and he says "I'm a Charlie!" (not real name).

When they're 30 and 32 I'll probably still call them my babies sometimes but I'll know they're not literal babies.

I'd say toddler. Some children don't walk until they are nearly 2 so I don't think they necessarily need to be walking to be a toddler.

Neither of mine started walking until 18m BTW so they were babies until then as they clearly weren't able to toddle! 🤣

You have a toddler whether or not they can walk . They become a toddler when they turn 1 year old and stop being a toddler when they turn 3.
