After school play dates

Subject title is a bit twee but didn't know what else to call them.

I've had a text from a parent in DS8's class asking if he would like to go to their home and play after school one day for a couple of hours. My son obviously knows the child (and wants to go) but I don't know the Mum/parents or where they live (yet). What do you usually do in this situation - just let your child go home with them straight after school or would you take them there yourself and stay for a bit? Or take them there and just drop off? I assume they live close by. I don't feel comfortable with them taking him straight from school when I know nothing about them.

If I’ve never met them/been to their house I always go for the first time and have a coffee with the mum. Once I get to know them better I’m happy for Dd to go with them after school.

I don't let dd so playdates with families unless I have a bit of contact with the parents first.

Yeah in few years I'd be fine but at 8 I'd want to meet the parent first. Can you say you will drop off and go with dc or try to meet them at school?

Thanks all. I've messaged the Mum and said yes but that I'd like to take him there myself or we walk there together after school.
