Bassinet to Cot

My DS is 23 weeks and still sleeping in his bassinet in our room. Does anyone have any advice on the transition to cot in the nursery as he will soon outgrow the bassinet. I have tried putting him down in the cot for some daytime naps, but he sleeps for much shorter periods which I could handle if it was during the night!

DD was in a similar situation and was in danger of getting stuck in the moses basket - kept putting her in the cot during the day and then putting her back in basket as she wasn't sleeping. My HV advised, to pick a day she was going into the cot and stick to it - her opinion was that it was me holding the situation back as much as DD, and I think she was right. So, you could decide that wed is the day. Then put the bassinet away and go cold turkey. The first couple of nights were a tiny bit unsettled, but not nearly as bad as I thought they would be and then we were fine. If he isn't already, put him in a sleeping bag as I think half the problem is losing the security of the close sides of the bassinet, and I found that a cosy sleeping bag helped. Good luck!

Thanks Hollypop. I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and go for it. I'm sure you're right about all the space in a cot so the grow bag is a good idea.
