anyone else got sedative guilt?

dished out 2.5ml of Calpol Night tonight since Junior is cutting his first tooth and am losing it for all kinds of dull reasons which I have bored MNers with enough. Mothers' Day has been shite and needed to sit down with a beer and not spend 3.5 hours comforting a screaming baby as per the last 3 nights.

But have not done this before, even with the other two and am feeling like an Official Bad Mother. C'mon assuage my guilt and let me off... Or send me to Bad Mummy Hell before I feel the pain.

NOt done it before? You are an official saint! Do not feel guilty, especially if cutting teeth as they will be in some pain.

The way I see it is, painkillers have sedatives in for a reason. So, if you give the painkiller for a legitimate painkilling reason, the sedative is neither here nor there. That is my argument and I'm sticking to it. DS has given me a cracking first Mother's Day, snotty and teething, so out came the Medised. They wouldn't sell it in Boots if it were that bad...

Surely you have just given some painkillers to a baby whose in pain ??? Nothing bad about that.

Enjoy the beer and don't worry.

my DS (18mo) is cutting 4 teeth atm.. 2 of them molars.. i've been dosing him before bed all week.

Don't feel guilty, baby is entitled to some sleep without being in pain.

oh I know, I was just being a bit precious

have got over myself now, and just dished out 5ml this a.m. in attempt to get him off to sleep (had been up since 5.30 till 10am - far too long for him without a sleep - and last 2.5 hours of this spent arching, screaming, Being Very Unhappy)

Obv now I'm/he's a mainliner!

But i'd forgotten how shit teething is for them. Please remind me - does it get better or worse with next teeth? And how do you tell when they haven't come through yet? With the other two we were always going 'a ha' some days/weeks later when a little tooth appeared. This one was easy to tell cos he has a little white dot breaking through...
