6yo peeing discomfort?

6yo is having a spate of bedwetting and frequent pees (once it was x3 in an hour), and it seemed to me he was struggling to pee, more stop-start and grunting than I remembered, not seeming to empty his bladder every time. He didn't complain of pain though but he is autistic and not very communicative.

I took a sample of urine to the GP but they didn't get back to me and then it was the weekend when they closed. When he complained of tummy pain I called 111 and and the out of hours doctor agreed it sounded like a UTI and prescribed antibiotics. But the symptoms abated so we decided not to take them. The GP called on Monday and said the first sample was fine.

He is still stop-start peeing though and grunting a little. Is this normal for kids? I worry that if it's not a UTI there might be an underlying problem. What investigation would be performed? He's autistic and quite anxious already, so I don't want to subject him to anything in unnecessary

I'd be tempted to ask @mnhq to move this over to the SN Children Section to see if anyone in there has any experience of this Flowers
