If they hadn’t done a poo, obviously.

Every 3hrs for a wet nappy. Night time if sleeping thru I wouldnt change but you wpuld need good quality nappy that goes thru the night.

Poo nappies as you said, immediately

Twizbe · 05/09/2023 11:51

Yeah I’d agree with the pp. probably would change when I feed unless they were sleeping. At the very least I’d do a change at lunch time and mid afternoon.

I’d also leave it at night unless a poo.

Imagine sitting in your own piss..

At least every feed so probably 1.5/2hrs at that age.

elm26 · 05/09/2023 11:53

I change every time she feeds which is every 3.5-4 hours however if I notice she is particularly full I will obviously change before, poo is done straight away.

At night she does 5 hours at a time so I don't disturb her but I do cover her bottom and front in sudocrem.

@Icycloud small babies wee literally constantly. If you changed every time they did a wee it would be every 10-15 minutes. No one is changing their baby every time they do a wee. Nappies are designed to be highly absorbent and the wee doesn’t sit on the skin.

@Icycloud ever seen a nappy from inside? If you touch it its not wet from the inside..atleast not in 3hrs!

I have had multiple babies but if as you say yours wees every 15 minutes and you change every 3 hours well the nappy can only absorb so much and it’s still disgusting

FoodFann · 05/09/2023 12:01

I change DD minimum once every 2 hours, plus immediately after a poo, plus if I can feel it’s full ie she’s done a big wee. I use clean water and cotton wool. Never had any nappy rash.

How often do you change yours?

matthancockscareer · 05/09/2023 12:03

Only on Mumsnet would you get competitive Nappy changing!

Which nappies do you have that absorb 9-12 wees

RafaistheKingofClay · 05/09/2023 12:17

Surely that depends on the size of the wee doesn’t it? and newborn’s bladders are tiny, therefore wees are small and frequent.

TropicalTrama · 05/09/2023 12:32

Well nappies are designed to go 12 hours overnight night so obviously they can last 3-4 hours especially if baby only feeds that frequently - before each feed was what I usually did too, unless I noticed it seemed unusually full then I’d do it more frequently.

jolaylasofia · 05/09/2023 12:34

@Icycloud i presume you used really crappy nappies

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 05/09/2023 12:35

Every 2-3 hours

YourNameGoesHere · 05/09/2023 12:36

Every 2-3 Hours. Anyone doing it more than that unless they've had a poo is either using really rubbish nappies or has money to burn.

TeddyBeans · 05/09/2023 12:37

DD is 6 months and gets changed whenever she has a bottle which at the moment is every 6 hours ish. Unless she's done a poo then immediately. At 4 months she was having bottles every 4 hours so was being changed more frequently. The nappies are designed to absorb wee, pampers claim theirs stay dry for up to 8 hours I think it is. They're not sitting in their own wee and you wipe them when you change their nappy anyway. It's the amount to landfill that bothers me more tbh

If you connect the hose of the vacuum cleaner to the nappy you may get away with changing nappy weekly.
😉😁😁

Batbatbatty · 05/09/2023 14:15

Go on then @Icycloud how often do/did you change yours?!

NameChange547 · 05/09/2023 14:25

Thanks everyone (except @Icycloud 😂), I’m changing with every feed at the moment too. Glad to know I’m on the right lines!

Very interested to find out how often @Icycloud changes nappies if every 2 hours is disgusting 😅 Are you using an entire pack of nappies every day?

Oh my god @Icycloud talk about judgy. This is why so many mums keep their questions to themselves!

If you really do have a baby/have had babies, you'll know that if they're uncomfortable before you decide to change them, they'll let you know, LOUD and clear!
