If they hadn’t done a poo, obviously.

Every 2.5 hours.

Clefable · 05/09/2023 14:52

I've covered our entire floor in nappies so DD2 can wander about in the nude and just pee and poop where she likes. Can't believe you awful people confining a baby to a nappy! So cruel.

MrsNT · 05/09/2023 14:57

So what do u do. Change every 15min? You would live on a changing mat then!

Thanks everyone (except @Icycloud 😂), I’m changing with every feed at the moment too. Glad to know I’m on the right lines!

Very interested to find out how often @Icycloud changes nappies if every 2 hours is disgusting 😅 Are you using an entire pack of nappies every day?

@Icycloud may be using washable nappies. So doesn't 'cost' individually.
Must admit I used to always change just before going out even if it's only been on half an hour so as to save having to change when out (unless a poo)

MrsNT · 05/09/2023 15:00

@Icycloud go on tell us how often do u change urs as u are frowning upon everyone elses schedule.

Treesinmygarden · 05/09/2023 15:00

Well, it depends. It's been a few years but I probably changed DC1 too often. Less often with DC2. DC3 (unless in the case of a poo) got changed when the nappy began to sag down their legs. Never made a button of difference. In fact DC3 had the least nappy rash (if at all, can't quite remember!!)

Quit with the "disgusting". The fact is you cannot change a baby's nappy every single time it pees!!!

MrsNT · 05/09/2023 15:01

@Ariela yes ofcourse when going out I would change too even if changed less than an hr ago. But when at home its every 3hrs unless it seems very full or if done a poo then immediately change

MrsNT · 05/09/2023 15:03

@Clefable are you and @Icycloud from the same league?? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Bells3032 · 05/09/2023 15:03

During the day about every 3 hours if no poop though she generally pooped a lot but by 4 months she was sleeping 10hrs a night and obviously didn't change in her sleep

Spareincoming · 05/09/2023 15:05

@Treesinmygarden good to hear someone else’s 2nd had the balance, and the DC either side had very different parenting! 😂

HAF1119 · 05/09/2023 15:10

I changed when he woke generally or after a feed, I don't really think I thought about times, as soon as a poo was done and then first thing in the morning and quite often just before going down for a sleep/just after the feed after he woke I think. I couldn't have done it before the feed or he'd have tried to murder me with his podgy fingers...

I didn't wake up every hour in the night to change him or wake him up mid nap in case a wee had occurred, I don't think having wee in an absorbent nappy while sleeping is awful and they aren't awake that long at that age!

When older and on one nap then the wees were a lot bigger and you got 'signs' they had happened so quite often just changed straight after the wee which I think helps lead towards the potty training path that we don't want wee in clothes/on skin, but that's way off

ramby · 05/09/2023 16:26

The longest I leave my 9 week old's nappy is 3 hours during the day, obviously change more if it's looking wet. She sleeps through the night though and don't wake her to change it, I figure if it was uncomfortable she'd wake up. I work in a nursery and we change the babies every 3 hours so have always used that as a guide

NameChange547 · 05/09/2023 16:29

Presumably @Icycloud is stopping every 15 minutes when out and about to change nappies too. On car journeys as well.

@Icycloud will think twice before commenting now

Icycloud · 05/09/2023 18:00

Whatever makes you feel better about letting your children sit in pissy nappies for 3 hours

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 05/09/2023 18:46

I asked my husband about it and he said when we had newborns we changed every 2 hours unless they'd done a poop.
Now it's every 3 hours.

Findyourneutralspace · 05/09/2023 18:49

At that age I’d change the nappy after every feed. I didn’t always do it in the night if it was just a quick comfort feed back to sleep.

Older it was when they got up, after each meal, and after bath/before bed - and after a poo, obvs.

WeightoftheWorld · 05/09/2023 18:52

Roughly 3 or 4hrly. But like someone else said, I always change before going out anywhere (well, except visiting close family) unless I've changed it within the past half hour. As I hate changing nappies in public changing so try to limit that as much as possible.

SouthLondonMum22 · 05/09/2023 18:52

Always at every feed which is every 3 hours unless he looks full before that. 12 hours overnight since he doesn't wake.

BiscuitsandPuffin · 05/09/2023 18:56

Icycloud · 05/09/2023 12:01

I have had multiple babies but if as you say yours wees every 15 minutes and you change every 3 hours well the nappy can only absorb so much and it’s still disgusting

I agree, at that age I changed it when the colour changing strips changed colour, or when it started to get puffy with the bigger sizes as one of mine was on size 3 at 4 months (at least every hour at that age). I changed my cloth nappies whenever they were wet too. Never once had nappy rash. Given that nappy rash is babies being left in dirty nappies, I think I saved the baby a lot of discomfort. It's just about paying basic attention to the needs of the baby, surely?

BiscuitsandPuffin · 05/09/2023 18:56

Oh but overnight I would check at the night feeds and change if needed. I suppose I did nappy change on demand to go with breastfeeding on demand. 🤣

I suspect she straps her dc onto a potty 😵‍💫

SouthLondonMum22 · 05/09/2023 19:01

To add, nursery change him every 3 hours too unless it's a poo.

justanothernamechangemonday · 05/09/2023 19:12

@Icycloud so guessing from your judgement you change yours every hour at least? So that's 24 nappies a day? Over 8,000 a year? You are almost single-handedly responsible for the problems we have with waste across the world. You are basically murdering dolphins on a daily basis.

What I just wrote above is as batshit as you sound.

Sporkle99 · 05/09/2023 19:18

I used cloth nappies and would change every couple of hours. Would occasionally use disposables like when we were on holiday or staying with friends. I used to just feel the nappy to see how wet it felt. No nappy rash or complaints here.
