Opinions on Axkid Move carseat

I’m looking at the next stage car seat for DC and would like to rear face for as long as possible. Due to being on the higher centiles for weight and height, the Joie seats are not suitable. Looking for a good budget seat and wondered what people’s thoughts are on the Axkid Move? I’ve heard it can cause headflop which puts me off if that’s a common issue.

Any other recommendations also welcome!

We've got three across two cars and love them. Sometimes my eldest's head flops forward but he's done that in every seat he's been in.

That’s helpful to know, thank you 😊

Not sure what the price difference is but I have an avionaut sky and we love it. We don’t have head flop ever despite it being a constant issue in infant carrier.

We did get headflop in our Move, yes. DD 1 didn't care. I prefer the Maxway Plus (we have one of each) but it's discontinued now so probably hardly any stock. It's a great seat though, it did DD1 till 4.5 and now DD2 is in it.

The Sky Q is a cheaper version if you don't need any of the inserts, but you often need at least some of them till the age of 2.

You might find some Minikid 2s on sale, I heard there were some going up for £265 today somewhere.

Ah not today for the Minikid 2 but later this month apparently at Simply Safe Car Seats, which is a good discount.

How old/big is DC? It is better for children over age 1 as it's not the most supportive seat, it doesn't recline as much as the spin seats for example.

But it does have a recline, and there is a wedge available for further recline if needed.

OopsieeDaisy · 09/09/2023 00:36

@BertieBotts DC has just turned 1, approx 10.5kg and 75cm, I’ve read that the spin seats aren’t always suitable for higher centiles as the weight limit can be lower. Interesting to know there is a recline wedge available though, I haven’t seen that!

At 75cm I would definitely try to find a local retailer to check the fit, as it's likely you wouldn't get a good fit in it yet.

If your LO stays on the same centiles, a 105cm/18kg seat will last them until approx 4-4.5 years. You can get some 105cm/20kg seats like Britax Dualfix M Plus, which would last until approx 4.5+yo. Your LO is not really on a high centile. Slightly above average for weight and slightly below average for height. It's likely these will slow down a little when they get moving too :)

If that's not long enough and you would prefer the security of a longer lasting seat like Axkid Move, you might need to stay in the infant carrier a bit longer, or look at the 61cm+ seats that last up to 125cm, like Besafe Stretch or Axkid Minikid 4. The Avionaut Sky is in this category but people report that it is normally outgrown by height at less than 125cm.

Another thing to consider is you could get a spin seat for now and then if you end up having another child later, hand down the spin seat and move your eldest into a seat like the Axkid Move.

@BertieBotts I think I’ll definitely have to look for a local retailer to try a few before we choose a seat.

There is a prediction chart on a car seat safety facebook group I’m in which gives a guide as to what age a child will reach 18kg based on their centile, and suggests DC (91st centile) may be around 3.5, which is what puts me off a joie as they would not be old enough to forward face with an adult belt and I’d need a new seat in the interim.

Thank you for the detailed response - I’ll definitely look at the others you’ve mentioned, appreciate the help 😊

Ah, sorry I was looking at the boys centile chart, which puts 10.5kg just under the 75th centile.

So you might still be ok with a 20kg limit seat like the Dualfix plus. But makes sense to try the Move if you can. Have a look on the axkid site for local retailers. I agree you probably do not want a Joie spin seat, the leg room is not great on them for longer rear facing anyway.

@BertieBotts I posted in the parenting forum earlier, I want to buy an erf seat for my three year old. Have been recommended the Minikid4 or Movekid by a retailer. Would love your input, you seem well informed!

Yes they are both great options for ERF for a 3yo. To be honest, a current ERF specialist retailer will be more up to date than me. I am less in touch with the differences between the various ERF models these days.

Will go and look for thread :)
