What formula did your little one find easy to digest?

Hi all

Just looking to get some advice on formulas your little ones might have found easy to digest.

My 7 week old is currently on 10mg Omeprazole for reflux which seems to be helping, however she is still really uncomfortable on her back, squirms alot and just generally unhappy. She has Aptamil Anti Reflux and I think she does struggle to digest it. It's affecting her sleep and sleeps in the carrier mostly in the day and on my chest at night 80% of the time which isn't sustainable.

What formulas did your little ones find easier to digest? As I am considering changing from the Aptamil AR.

Thank you 😊

We ended up on goats milk formula, sold in waitrose. It's pricey but much easier for them to digest.

Following!

My DS is 9 weeks old (born 3 weeks early so still very small)

He is on Aptamil anti reflux too. He was BF for 4 weeks but turns out he had tongue tie so ended up being FF for about 5 weeks so far. Switched to reflux milk after regular formula was just being vomited straight back up. He finds it hard to digest too. Squirms, groans and grunts if put on his back and it really disturbs his sleep, and therefore my sleep. He just seems so uncomfortable and grouchy between feeds now.

Doctor didn’t want to know, just told me to wind him better…thanks for that! I have been adding Colief drops to his milk which seemed to help a little bit but it’s still not great.

im debating switching him to a gentler milk like Hipp comfort which is already slightly broken down and then adding some carobel to thicken it up. Just so wary of changing formula and making things much worse!

Hi @VP91x

Have you looked into possible CMPA?

My DD was like this until the dr prescribed her aptamil pepti 1 and she is now 15 weeks and thriving.

@Thelazygardener so frustrating when the doctors aren't bothered about things. They might see so often, but when you're dealing with a refluxy/colicky baby it's so tough and you just want something to make them settled.

Yeah she is definitely struggling to digest the formula she goes through a constant cycle of constipation then loose poo. Discomfort wakes her up etc!

I'm going to try Hipp Organic the normal one, not anti reflux and see how that goes. As we have the omeprazole. Fingers crossed it helps.

@elm26 we have discussed possible CMPA with the GP, but they are so unsure. They prescribed SMA Althera but she just wouldn't drink it so then it was just making her more angry. It's such a minefield, how quickly did you see a change with the Aptamil Pepti?

@VP91x just wanted to write and let you know today I stopped the aptamil anti reflux and switched to Hipp Comfort milk which I’ve considered for a while as I was using lactase drops in his aptamil anyway to make it easier to digest and I’m gutted I didn’t do it sooner! I’m still using MAM anti colic bottles and tried it with a 0 teat today (I’ve ordered size 1 as comfort milk is marginally thicker than regular milk, but like single cream consistency and my little one was getting a little frustrated with the speed).

I’ve had no rigid body after feeding, the tiniest amount of spit up, his ribs used to feel awfully tight and his belly like a barrel…when I used to swaddle him and put him down the minute his back hit the cot he would groan, croak, wheeze and tense up and honestly sounded like a farmyard animal and tonight he has gone down really relaxed and content, it was such a relief i felt like crying he actually looks peaceful! His trapped wind has been non existent.

I genuinely think because the anti reflux milks are so thick it sits in the gut and the dairy element was just fermenting and bloating him. It’s still very early days but as you’re thinking of changing to Hipp regular anyway perhaps have a look at the comfort? I intend to use it for a while if all continues to be well and then wean off it onto the regular organic I think 😊 x

Hipp organic worked best for us, she was a reflux baby too

With my reflux baby it was HIPP that worked the best for us. That and ranitidine (they no longer prescribed this though).
