I sent my dad a photo of our 3.5 year old standing by his paddling pool. The response I got was “please be careful and do not leave him alone with it.”

It made me rage. I’m also six months pregnant and DP thinks I’m touchy.

This happens often. Why do they do it? Do yours? Obviously I’m not going to leave my bloody 3 year old alone with water!!

I think they usually mean well but it can be so infuriating.

A family member of mine goes one further and turns into an extra parent when she visits by telling them whether they have eaten enough dinner to get dessert, can/can't watch TV and will often undermine my parenting entirely - all in my home too

Although annoying, it’s coming from a good place.

My FIL is like that. Honestly, he thinks he could parent better and isn't shy about it. I just take one for the team and agree with him because he's lovely and dedicated to his grandchildren.
