Last week of summer holidays and behaviour is nose diving. Is this a thing?

Looking for some advise from some seasoned school parents

Last week of summer holidays. Is it normal for kids to get really badly behaved/ignoring requests/being cheeky/ tantrums

I feel like I don't recognise my almost 6 year old.

I wondered if it's a 'thing' or here to stay and if so any tips/links /reading on how to nip this in the bud. :(

I think it is, they reach a point in the holidays when they are both excited to return to school and nervous to return to school. Lots of conflicting feelings about being ready to be back with their friends and wanting something different to do, while also wanting the old days to stretch on forever and being a bit scared of harder work and growing up.

It's a lot for a young child to try to wrap their head around and respond appropriately.

Try having some light conversations about how they're feeling about going back to school, point out the positives, acknowledge the scary things and ask if there's anything he particularly wants to do before he goes back.

Yes I think it's pretty normal, a sense of the holidays coming to an end, a bit of anxiety about going back (even if they're not really anxious) wanting the holidays to continue, looking forward to seeing their friends. A bit like you would be going back to work after a long holiday. It's a lot, but we've nearly made it!

Thank you. It's been a bad day

Can't blame everything on end of summer holidays im sure but I'll give myself and little one a bit of grace and hope we all have a better calmer day tmr.
