10 month old sleep schedule - advice please

Hi , sorry it’s long but any advice welcome.

Everyone around me with babies similar ages are telling me their babies are fighting naps now and will only sleep 1 nap a day. However my son who is now 10 months is still napping 3-4 times a day, they can last from 30 mins to 2.5 hours. Usually around 1.5 hours each though. He also sleeps about 11hours overnight, sometimes he wakes up for his dummy.

I’ve had lots of conflicting advice and I guess I’m a little worried on what’s normal? I’ve been told by HV it’s wonderful he still sleeps so much but by friends he should be down to 1 nap ready for nursery.

My problem is that he cannot function unless he has Atleast 3 naps.
For example - Yesterday my mum watched him in the afternoon so he ended up staying awake 4 hours and missed his regular nap. He refused his bottle and his tea, wouldn’t stop crying, woke up crying but also refused breakfast. Then was back fast asleep within an hour.
Now this actually happens nearly everytime his sleep schedule is changed. Lots of tears and drama.

I’ve attempted to keep him up longer to see if he will sleep longer overnight but it just backfires and he’s constantly crying & completely out of it.

Just any advice on whether this is completely normal and I’m being silly or any similar experiences?

Thanks x

Your friends advice is a bit off, I don't think one nap at 19 months is usual at all.

How is he apart from the sleep? Is he bright and alert at times and meeting his milestones?

I think it’s still normal. My DD did 3 naps a day until about 11 months when she naturally swapped to 2. She is in a nursery room for babies up to 16 months and most of them do 2 naps a day so not all nurseries do the 1 nap schedule.

DD1 didn't go to 1 nap until she was about 13/14 months. She was still on 2 naps a day when she started nursery at 12 months.

DD2 is nearly 10 months and has 2 naps a day. No way could she go to 1 yet as she's ready for her first nap at 8:30/9:00!

There all different 3 under 3 and 1 gets grumpy without 3 naps a day, 1 naps once and other no naps..they sleep all night aswell. What works for one won't work for another

Is this a stealth boast at how well your baby sleeps op?! 😊

If that's what your baby needs, that's what he needs. Enjoy the down time

My 10 month old has 2 naps a day - 9-10ish and then again 1-3. She goes to bed at 7 and wakes at 6ish.

Thankyou everyone for your replies it’s definitely made me feel better!

I know I feel like I should be grateful that he sleeps 😂 I think because he would cry every second he wasn’t sleeping for the first 3 months of his life I always worried there was some issues around his sleep.

I will just let him do his thing.

@SiouxsieSiouxStiletto He is still developing his movement, he was classed as behind but they weren’t worried as he does try just can’t crawl or pull himself up. Can’t save himself yet when sat up etc.
Can clap point attempting to wave, recognises colours & shapes by name most of the time. I think all fairly normal anyways 😊
