Looking for some advice

My 3mo has CMPA and I’ve been prescribed SMA Althera formula. It’s DISGUSTING and baby will not drink it… any advice?
We’ve tried vanilla essence but she still won’t drink it 😫

TIA

General advice is to mix usual formula with a small amount of the new and gradually change the proportions till it’s all new formula.
the cmpa formulas are all yuk.

@Helenloveslee4eva I’ve been breastfeeding (Exclusively pumping) up until now 😬 maybe I can mix some breastmilk

Can you breastfeed and go dairy free?

How old is baby? I had this same issue with my baby as I had been exclusively bf. Definitely try mixing the breast milk and some of the formula. SMA althera is also very thin so maybe struggling with that? My baby could only have Neocate LCP but completely refused anything I tried so I ended up bf her until she could have koko milk from the supermarket from age one and finally weaned her off me at 15 months.

Sprinklerainbows · 26/08/2023 20:26

@ThelmaDinkley yeah that’s what I’ve been doing until now. But I’ve had a sudden drop in supply after mastitis and im lucky to get 1/2oz 😔

@abbs1 I really would prefer to do that but my supply is so low I can’t maintain enough supply to feed her on breast milk alone and I’m so worried about wasting breastmilk if she still won’t take it 😅😅😅 I’ll try it once and see if it works

Oh bless you. I couldn't pump for nothing hardly anything came out 30ml if I was lucky but when I bf my little girl it came out so fast it sprayed everywhere 🙈 my midwife said sometimes the pumping just doesn't work but supply is fine when baby feeds but its not always practical. I hope you manage to get your little on formula. It's so much harder with babies with allergies so sending hugs.

@abbs1 yeah she just can’t latch and never has from day 1! Been so difficult, my son whos 3 was bf until 2 so it’s been really different this time round.
I called the out of hours to swap the milk but she refused and said they all taste the same. She suggested a comfort milk because the proteins are slightly broken down but not completely like with the allergy formula. I feel like she just didn’t believe she has an allergy so I’m a bit appreciative to give her that 😬

Oh bless her. I'm guessing they've checked her for tongue tie etc? My little boy couldn't latch so I formula fed him but he had CMPA so was on allergy milk from a few weeks but bf to allergy formula is a whole nother thing. Can you ask the GP for an Urgent Referral to a paediatrician for help? I feel like GPs have such limited knowledge. Sma Althera tastes nothing like neocate as they are made with different ingredients. Comfort milk won't help a baby who has an allergy. Surely they know that 🙈🤦‍♀️
