Hey ladies, so I'm 12 weeks postpartum & I'm currently not breastfeeding, I'm just wondering why my period hasn't began yet?
About 1 hour ago I went to the toilet and when I wiped it was light pink blood & I haven't come on...
I'm being extra careful at the moment using condoms with my partner so I am preying it's not pregnancy! (I'm going to do a test as-well just to be safe)
I have had a few mild cramps but nothing major at all, is it a sign of my period coming or?
Has any other ladies here gone through the same thing?

I never breastfed and I think it took just under 4 months to return.

12 weeks after my first and 14 weeks after my second. Formula fed both times.

kaseymaria · 26/08/2023 21:22

@EMC2022 @WutheringMights did you both have light pink blood when wiping? Before you started?

I combi fed and didn't get my period till 14 months post partum (and wasn't pleased to get it back even then).

12 weeks is a really short time, your womb takes ages to heal from the placenta wound, regardless of whether you're breastfeeding.

My lochia hadn't even stopped by 6w.

Mummy08m · 26/08/2023 21:27

The mild cramps is possibly just your womb contracting back to its original size - it does most of that in the first couple of weeks but kind of carries on slowly for ages as I understand it

I don't remember how it started but it didn't remain a light period so if by tomorrow a normal flow hasn't started maybe it is best to book in with GP to make sure it's normal and figure out if the source of blood is period. I wouldn't worry too much at this stage though.

WutheringMights · 27/08/2023 05:54

@kaseymaria I seem to recall my bleeding started like a normal period. Pinkish on tissue after wiping and then got darker & heavier over the course of a few hours. Did you have a c-section?

Cakeymamma88 · 27/08/2023 06:05

I breastfed but got my period exactly 4 weeks after giving birth. It sounds like yours is on its way x

I don't think I had a period for about 4 months after both my kids. Put your best pants on, that always does the trick to hurry mine up.

Brilliant!😆

12 weeks is no time.
Best pants, white jeans..., go out for the day.

kaseymaria · 27/08/2023 14:24

@WutheringMights no, I was a natural delivery! It ended up like a light brown colour and stopped? No clue what's going on, going to buy a test today😅

The GP told me anything up to a year is considered "normal" ie they won't investigate until then. Mine came back at about 11.5 months post partum - and that's with combi-feeding and not breastfeeding at night after six weeks.

Meanwhile, one of my friends EBF and got pregnant again at six weeks PP by accident...

Your first few periods will be weird. Either much lighter or heavier or shorter or longer than usual.

My first period pp was 16 days long (my cycle is 28 days!) The one after that was 14 days long until they gradually went back to normal.

By all means do a pg test but everything you've described sounds normal I reckon
