Baby hit his gums on the bath

Feeling awful! He slipped a little bit and hit his top gums off the bath edge (plastic bath and not from a height at all, I was holding his hands and he just lunged his head forward)😭 it bled the tiniest amount and he stopped crying within 5 mins so he’s fine in that regard (just me sobbing now!) but his top teeth are cutting. One is just through and that looks okay, no chips and gum looks pink but the Tooth next to it hasn’t cut yet and the gum looked a little purple and bruised & im wondering if this with affect the tooth coming in? Anyone else had a minor gum injury before the tooth emerged?

Sorry you haven't had any replies @ecossegirl91.

How is he now?

He’s fast asleep, will have a look at his gums in the morning - just hope his tooth is ok before it’s even emerged 🙈

My little boy fell face first onto his activity table and split him gum wide open 2 days before his first birthday and before any teeth had cut. It bruised but healed quickly and his top four teeth are now through without issue. I took him to the dentist to check but he wouldn’t let them see much and they seemed most unconcerned. I hope you’re feeling better, it’s awful when these things happen but it’s so hard to avoid!

So my little boy fell and banged his gums on the edge of a coffee table before his teeth had come through and they bled and were bruised. I was absolutely paranoid that it would affect the teeth under the gum but his top 2 teeth are now through and don't seem to have any issues at all. Just wanted to put your mind at ease as I lost sleep over worrying about it!

@Micasasucasa thank you! It was such a horrid feeling - I knew he was fine in the moment but I was just so worried about the tooth that had just cut and the pending one! I’ve tried to have a look and the little nub of tooth looks ok and the other side the gum just looks a lil purple so hopefully it’ll be the same as your little one and come through issue free!

My DD smashed her teeth at aged 2, on the bath. One had already chipped after an incident at a playpark. Her big teeth are all through at the top (she's eight) and are absolutely perfect.

Good luck. I totally understand how scary it is

Babies are born with all of their baby teeth already formed, so a bump won't effect the formation of his teeth if that's what you're worried about. It's extremely unlikely he hit his gums hard enough to break a tooth inside the jaw, as his jaw would break first. I'm sure he's fine.
