Hi

My lad has started to smell a bit and we have noticed fine hairs (not baby hair bit thicker) at the base of his penis. He has had a recent growth spurt too

Is this too young to start or just slightly on the early side of normal? Should I see the GP?

I can't remember when I started puberty but I do remember it was early-ish as recall asking my mum if I would age faster as a result.

I’m a female but I know my mum took me to the doctors when I was younger because she noticed body odour and wasn’t sure why I was because I was only just turning 9. They said it was completely normal and that I was just starting puberty and to teach my how to wash under my arms every day and wear deodorant and why I need to etc. by the age of 10 I’d started my period. I remember sobbing to my mum because I didn’t want her to tell school I’d started my period haha! My mum just casually took me shopping, didn’t make a big deal out of it and just said now I’m older I need to start washing, have a brief explanation on hormones and puberty, let me pick my deodorant and smellys and then encouraged me to wash morning and night and made sure I was using spray

That does sound a little early for a boy OP. Might be worth just checking with GP.

Yes, check with the GP. For a boy that would be too early. Precocious puberty is under 9 in males
