11 month old doesn’t stop whining

I feel like I’m going out of my mind because my 11 month old doesn’t stop whingeing and whining all day long. It’s been going on for about 4 months now. He isn’t crying, he’s just constantly tired and/or frustrated. He is happy and smiley if he’s eating, on his feet or being carried around the house but I still can’t sit him on his play mat to play while I have a sit down/sort through the washing/play with my 4 year old because he just non stop whines like a fog horn even though I stay in the room.

He isn’t crawling but is doing some strange form of bum shuffle so he can get across the room, just very slowly. He’s always hated tummy time so I don’t think he will ever crawl properly. He can stand with support, but can’t pull himself up yet. I thought the whining might stop once he could move around himself but it has not. He is incredibly wakeful overnight so I think a lot of it is tiredness, but most of the time he only cat naps as well!

Will the whingeing ever end and when?!

he's just figuring out how to influence his world. He can't do a lot to keep himself so amused, and you are his everything.

Are you sure he's not teething all this time? Peak age for it.

I could have written your post when ds was the same age!
He was a chronic whinger, I used to watch my friends dc when we had days out, playing happily and watching the world go by and wondered why mine wasn't the same. He was also a horrific sleeper which I'm sure doesn't help.

Not much advice unfortunately but my ds definitely started whining less when he could start to talk and communicate a bit better! That and possibly a different routine to get dc sleeping better (I know, you've probably tried everything and are telling me to shut up just now)
Good luck op, this too shall pass

DS was horrendous at circa 1 year old. I was at my wits end and practically ran back to work. Like yours he never crawled and used to cruise if placed standing against furniture. Also loved being carried around.

The constant crying/whinging pretty much stopped within the space of a month or less when he cracked walking, pulling up and getting off the ground from sitting (happened in that order weirdly - he started by walking between things but was utterly stuck if he hit the ground in between until he mastered pulling up and standing from sitting, gosh was he cross during that phase!)

@lljkk he could well be teething, he only has two teeth so far and his top gums are swollen.

@Caledoniablue thank you. It’s good to know it should hopefully pass. He actually slept better than usual last night and only woke once for a quick feed then straight back down. But the whingeing seems worse than ever today :(

@VivaVivaa same here, I started back at work a few weeks ago and I’ve so enjoyed the peace. I think a lot of it with him is frustration that he wants to move but can’t quite get about properly yet. I’m hoping it’ll improve once he’s more mobile!
