My 18 month (not so)DD is driving me Insane with her high pitch screeching she does A LOT.
Sometimes for no apparentent reason. Other times it's when she's at the baby gate while I am trying to cook tea or when I have nipped upstairs for a second and she is stood at the bottom baby gate. She even does it while we are in the supermarket.
It's horrible. I just tell her "no. Dont scream" I dont know how to stop it.
My mother even commented "can't you stop her screeching"
No mother. Don't you think I would if I could.
Any advice please.

I don’t think there is anything you can do, she’s not at an age to understand that the screeching is annoying. If she was older then yes you could try and explain and get them to stop but 18 months they are just experimenting with sounds and finding their voice. She won’t do it forever

It's a totally normal (if annoying) developmental thing. Both of mine have gone through the screeching stage. DD2 is in the thick of it just now. It doesn't last forever. It's sometimes linked to frustration at being left somewhere or food not being served fast enough or not being able to communicate properly, but sometimes I think they just do it because they enjoy it!
