16 month old taken steps but still not walking

My just turned 16 month old took his first steps 2 months ago! Since then he has taken probably at the most 6 steps on his own but will not walk at all other than occasionally about once a day. He will hold my hand and walk along but again not for a long period of time. My daughter was late to start walking, 15 months, but when she started she was off! Is this a cause for concern?

No! My daughter started to walk after 16 months. She was always very careful, and quite lazy.
Now she's 19 months old, she is walking but not nearly as much as other children at this age. I think it's something to do with personality; I won't be concerned.

I don't think you need to be concerned at all, my son didn’t walk till 18 months and once he did he was confident and rarely fell/stumbled. However you could always flag it with a HV if it's on your mind. Maybe it's totally irrelevant but my son was 10lbs and always big so maybe that contributed to the later walking.

Nope. Both mine were slow to get going. DD was 16 months before she properly started walking despite cruising, using her walker perfectly, and taking the odd few steps solo from about 10 months old. DS has only just started at 17.5 months, but is getting more confident by the day.
