DS(8) very hard on himself, how to help?

Our lovely DS has recently been talking very negatively about himself and reacting with strong feelings of being terrible when being told off (e.g. for staying on screens, when him and his older brother and his twin sister were told off for the same thing and were fine). He struggles a bit socially, doesn’t have perfect hearing, has niche interests and tends to either show off knowledge or ends up being loud and annoying (e.g. repeating memes over and over) when he feels left out. We have talked to him about this, but don’t know how else to help him. I felt terrible about myself when I was little because of abuse and didn’t have friends, so also have to try and not project and overreact to this. Any advice?

OP I don’t have any specific advice but wonder if your DC’s teacher might? They must experience this quite often.

Thanks wtg I might try her. He’s just started a new school year, so might also be good to make her aware.
