Do you bother with waterproof pillow protectors??

I have literally just bought a pair off eBay as DD was sick a few times in the night last week and I suddenly thought that they would be cheaper than throwing pillows away BUT it seems rather rustly (despite it being terry towelling and the seller saying they weren't rustly!) - what do you guys do? I know I can just sling a towel down once we know that puking is a possibility but it's the first time they honk when you have nothing there to protect the pillow that's the issue....

cant you buy washable pillows instead and bung them in the machine if they get puked on. I've never used pillow protectors.
