Is a toddler play mat needed?

Hello! It’s dc birthday soon and she’ll be turning one. We also are converting our back room into a family room - open plan kitchen, with a sofa. So we are hoping to spend most of our time in there as a family. (Can’t wait to not have to dash between rooms!!).

WE will have laminate floor. Is it worth us putting a foam play mat on DC’s birthday list? Or is there literally no point as she’ll be a toddler and just playing where she wants?

Thank you!

I'd say it's a nice idea if you want a designated area for messy play

We have one in the playroom. It's an additional level of protection for stuff getting dropped/marking the floor and both kids like sitting on it. Ours wasn't expensive.

It's good as they do fall over. We had the foam tiles so they are easier to take apart and put away somewhere if you don't want it out all the time.

We got a totter and tumble one on a discount (emailed the company and asked if they had any codes) and it’s the best. Very comfy to lie on when playing with DC and a good range of designs.

We have a totter and tumble playmat and it’s fantastic

I love my totter and tumble mat.

No you don’t need one, but it’s comfier for me to sit on the mat than the floor.

The totter and tumble ones are nice looking so we just treat it as a rug and have no plans to replace it, even when DS is much older.

Second this! BEST investment we have made and love the look of it

We had the alphabet mat. Great for cushioning falls, but I also spent half my life fixing the tiles because of the monster who kept pulling them up and nomming on them.

We have this one. Nice and thick and squashy and easy to clean! And folds up.

I really liked having one as we have hard wood floors. We have rugs in all the rooms, but the play mat just gave us extra comfortable space to play. Easy to wipe spills etc as well.

Environmentally they’re probably not great though (all that plastic). But then you can say the same for Jumperoos etc.

You can get tasteful ones also. Totter and tumble as someone mentioned above!

Thanks all really helpful. Sounds like worth us getting one then 😁
