Making friends

DS started nursery this week and although he's happy to go in the morning, and tells me he's had a good day when I pick him up, I've been told he has been found crying at some point each day and it's because he misses me. I think he feels a bit lost and lonely as he hasn't formed any friendships yet (it's only been 4 half days). It just breaks my heart to think of him being there, surrounded by strangers and feeling upset.

He's not long turned 3 and isn't used to being away from me/someone he knows, trusts and feels comfortable with for such long periods of time.

How long did it take your similar aged DC to make friends at nursery?

My ds just turned 3 aswel, in nursery it's more about socialising not particularly about making friends unless you make the effort to interact with the parents as nursery is only for a very short period of time anyway. When they reach reception to peers who will actually be in the same class/school for a while then it's about making friends
