Breaking out of swaddle

Hi all my 11-week-old keeps breaking out if the swaddle to duck his hands. Does this mean it’s time to abandon the swaddle? My concern is that then sucking his hands will keep him up all night

My little one did this at about 14 weeks and so we left the swaddle and went with a sleeping bag. In his case he does suck his hand/ thumb but actually as a self soothing technique which means he cries less! And at 22 weeks still does it :)

@Cdoc thanks did you gradually transition or just go cold Turkey? I’m thinking the latter as he squirms as soon I swaddle him and whilst I am trying to rock him to sleep!

You could try the Love to Dream swaddle which has their hands up and they can still self soothe.

Poor baby! My DDs loved to exercise and kick from a very early age. They enjoyed freedom of movement. Just let him enjoy his own movement. They reached out to hold things and grasp.

Not while you want them to sleep! There's a time and a place for exercising and thrashing about

Mine were active and slept all night from 8 weeks. They just cuddled down. This Dc doesn’t want to sleep. Baby is active. Let baby be active then they will sleep readily. Swaddling is just trying too hard!

I went cold turkey! He had been in love to dream swaddles for a while, first he started to suck his hands through them and eventually bust out of them to get to his thumb. For the exact same reason as you! He likes to eat his hand while I am rocking him to sleep 🤣

We swaddle with arms out as DD likes to have access to her hands too for comfort ❤️
