My little boy (10 months old) has had excessive dribble for a few days, so thought teething. But now he has these spots at either side of his mouth and under his bottom lip! They keep going yellow/ look slightly filled. Im so so scared they are cold sores!? Tried ringing docs and can’t see him today so now i am panicking. He does have a fever so been giving him calpol too. Pics attached!

Impetigo maybe

Purple89 · 14/08/2023 15:41

Has he got any spots on his hands or feet or nappy area? My DD has just had hand foot and mouth and it started with blisters around her mouth. They were a bit redder than these though. If it is HFM please don't worry as it will pass and the doctor can't prescribe anything. Calpol and cuddles will help!

Ps. My DD was also super dribbly and teething at the same time.

doesn’t look like cold sores but try not to worry. My son got a cold sore when he was 2 and I was going nuts. Got prescribed some Zovirax and at 17 he’s never had one since! Speak to the Gp who will hopefully confirm it’s not one but even if it is hopefully they can give him some treatment

I suspect it is impetigo which will need treatment. Please don't panic about cold sores they are a nuisance at worst ; your baby is not a vulnerable newborn.

Thanks everyone! SO it’s been eventful. Took him to A&E last night after 111 told me to. Said they had no idea what it was, but that it didn’t look like a cold sore, impetigo or HF&M! So told me to go home give calpol and go back to my GP. Even though he was very clearly unwell. But i did, and then today, they have got bigger and there were more of them around his mouth, he then started to shake uncontrollably with blue hands. He then ended up having a febrile seizure!! Obvs straight to hospital who confirmed more or less straight away it was impetigo!!! I am so so frustrated they fobbed me off and made sure they bloody knew. Anyway he’s being treated now so hopefully on the mend. Thanks everyone!!

Aw the wee soul. Hope he feels better soon Flowers

Ahh bless him. How awful!! Make sure you put a complaint in. They shouldn't just say oh I don't know, go back to your GP 🤦🏻‍♀️

Sazbug111 · 20/09/2023 20:55

Oh this is awful. How is LO now?

Hope you've all recovered from the trauma!
