Hey, so my 8 week old hasn’t pooed in 5 days.
she’s breastfed and was usually pooing every day until the last 2 weeks where she would pop every couple days but this is the longest she’s gone.
she doesn’t seem to be in any discomfort, she’s feeding normally and at her usual times and having plenty of wet nappies just no dirty nappies.
is this normal

Breastfed babies can go up to 10 days so I wouldn’t worry too much but if she is uncomfortable then a little warm bath and lift legs up and in gently will work and belly massage too.

Mine went 7 days once. Just ensure you have a well stocked changing bag if you go out. 😁

That's normal dw x

Very normal, just standby for the eventual explosion!

If she's having plenty of wet nappies then I wouldn't worry.

My oldest was like clockwork every Sunday.

My 2nd shat more than I care to remember. I thought I was in for a nice once a week again. I was not happy Grin

Brace yourself and take a chance of clothes for you and DD 🤣

Mine was every Wednesday so DH wasn't around for dirty nappies for a good few weeks. Was a running joke.

Longest he went was 10 days. For EBF babies it's pretty normal

My son’s longest stint was 16 days between poos so don’t worry at all. Makes your life so much easier when 95% of nappies are just wet- even if you end up needing 2 for the mega poo!

Be prepared for the huge explosion! They usually time it to the most inappropriate and stressful situations, so if you go out tomorrow make sure you forget the changing bag (speaking from experience 😂)

If she’s uncomfy if you gently hold her hips and pull down and move them in a figure 8 it creates movement in the bowel so should start things moving along quickly. Or a warm bath.

Very normal when breast feeding- don't worry! My little one went 10 days without going fairly regularly. When it happens next, you'll know about it Shock

I asked on here about it (five years ago now... waaaah) and someone replied and said it's something to do with the fact that the milk is so good for them that they use nearly all of it and there's very little waste. I don't know if that's true or not.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 13/08/2023 22:40

Yes totally normal for BF babies. They store it up and wait fir an opportunity e.g. next time the health visitor wants to weigh them they will explode!

DD1 was like this. It was great for the first few days after a poo because i knew there was no chance of a poo but as time went on you'd be getting more and more worried about going out in case there was a poonami.

DD2 on the other hand had incredibly regular bowel movements, she'd BF from one boob then poo so I'd have to change her then immediately demand a BF from the other boob then poo again, change again then she'd go to sleep. Then wake and repeat a few hours later.
