4 year old bad breath

I've noticed recently that my 4 year olds breath has started to smell bad, we're very consistent with brushing his teeth twice a day and recently saw the dentist that did not flag any dental issues or concerns. Has anyone had this? Any advice? He uses an electric toothbrush and Colgate kids toothpaste

How recently have you noticed? Dd1 also gets really smelly breath about a week before she comes down with minor illnesses - I think it's her 'run down' sign. It goes as soon as she gets properly ill eg cough/cold symptoms come out.

Are you sure it’s breath?

We thought the same for our 3 yo, but it turned out to be a rotting pea up her nose 🤢

Pretty sure it's breath, he had been a bit sniffly recently so maybe sickness? He also has a lovely habit of picking his nose and eating it ( we're working on this) but maybe that's affecting his breath?

My son has this, he has glue ear. Does her ears ever get blocked after a cold? Or does she have any allergies or get snotty?

My 3 year old had this and it turned out to be tonsil stones, has he had tonsillitis recently?

Fayegirl · 13/08/2023 10:33

He's been under the weather recently, just cold type symptoms, what can you do about tonsil stones on a child?

You might find it's a particular smell you'll later associate with illness. It's quite acidic in my experience and goes hand in hand with snotty illnesses and sore throats. You can smell it before they tell you they feel unwell. It could also be a result of acid reflux.
There's research out there that says eating bogies improves the immune system. I'd have to search for it but I read it a few years back. All 3 of mine did it the dirty beasts.

It’s one of the first things mine gets with tonsillitis. I kind of know it’s there from the smelly breath.
Have a quick look with your phone light.
