So planning to start weaning 5 month nearly 6 months baby and looking advice. What foods did you give first? I read you shouldn't give fruit first as this leads to a preference of sweet stuff. Also baby rice or baby porridge?

The Solid Starts website and their Instagram is a wealth of info. Check them out.

You can give your baby basically anything (apart from salt, sugar, honey) that you would eat, just prepared accordingly.

There's also a Weaning forum board here for more info

Breast milk is incredibly sweet so I don’t understand the whole thing first. Make sure you give the major allergens soon and regularly to reduce the risk of developing allergies.

The very first food I used was carrot - sweet but not too sweet. Moved on to other vegetable over the next few weeks. The first time I gave him fruit he actually gagged and then was sick after 3 mouthfuls!

We started with veggies roughly following Charlotte Stirling-Reed’s ‘How to Wean Your Baby’. Also gave the allergens and sometimes bits of what we were eating. Never brought baby porridge or rice.

Not sure how successful we were as 13 month old will only eat fruit, pasta and cheese now.
