Ralph Lauren Clothing - confused

So I have a few tops in Ralph Lauren for my boy.

He’s 4 years old and his clothes label has “4” on the label. I assumed this meant 4-5 years. However it seems that this actually means 3-4 years old??

He’s grown out of them like he has with the next clothes that are also 4-5 years old. So they have fitted him the same.

I want to buy him some more and looked on eBay for 5-6 years but the label says 6 on it which I would have assumed meant 6-7 years.

Anyone able to explain?

It's always the older age wherever you get it from. 6 is always 5-6, of course some brands come up smaller than others. Designer brands are usually on the smaller side so I'd always size up especially in tops.

This confuses me too - I try to go by the height. I think most '4' clothes are for height 104cm, 4 - 5 are generally 104cm - 110cm and '5' are for 110cm. It's awkward when you have an in between child!

No, the number is the top of the age. So 5 is 4-5. 6 is 5-6. Etc.

Lots of sellers on Vinted don't understand this either, you're not alone OP.

If its a straight number e.g. 6y it means 5-6y not 6-7y

Branded clothes are often smaller made than non branded

I’ve just checked the Next website and it says

5-6 years is 116cm

Size 5 is 109-116cm

So size 5 is correct ?

Half of eBay listings list 5-6 years as Size 5 and half list them as it as Size 6.

He has been wearing size 4 and grown out of the clothes the same as Next. He’s not small or particularly tall. Average height.
