Baby won’t fall asleep over shoulder

My 10-week-old only falls asleep if I rock him on his side. If I rock him over my shoulder he squirms, bobs his head and straightens his back. He is definitely not hungry because he will then fall asleep when rocked on his side. Why could this be? He is EBF by the way

I would imaging he feels more comfortable in the position which he falls asleep in. Other than that I don't think it means anything.

Why do you want him to fall asleep on your shoulder? It’s surely not comfortable

Some babies just don't like the over the shoulder position IME, DS never did. Why does it bother you?

DS never did either. He also preferred the sideways rocking. I was quite envious of my friends baby falling asleep on her shoulder when we went for coffees. She could get him to sleep whilst she stayed sitting down. I had clear a runway and limber up to rock him to sleep!
Now he's 10 months he rests his head on my shoulder when he's tired and it's lovely.

I had heard you were supposed to keep your baby upright after a feed. If it’s nothing to worry about that’s fine

Never kept mine upright and they were fine

You never mentioned after a feed? I presume that is to wind them?

Upright for abit after if reflux but if he hasn't got it I would say he isn't comfortable

Clairebear231 · 13/08/2023 07:37

Mine is the same, too far away from the milk

Cas112 · 13/08/2023 07:44

Probably just isn't comfortable sleeping that way
